The Province of San Antonio is located in the southwestern end of the V Region of Valparaiso, has a surface of 1,511.6 km² and has a population of 136,594 inhabitants. Its provincial capital is the port of San Antonio.

San Antonio is a commune and city of the center of Chile. He is capital provincial of the Province of San Antonio and comprises of the V Region from Valparaíso.Pertenece to 15 the Electoral District nº and 6ª Senatorial Circumscription (Fifth Coast). His present mayor is Omar Vera.Limita to the south with Santo Domingo and San Pedro, to the north with Cartagena, the west with the Pacific Ocean and the east with Melipilla. San Antonio was founded by Antonio Núñez de Fonseca.La importance of San Antonio, like port, has like origin the war Chilean-Spanish (1865). Since Valparaiso had been destroyed by a Spanish boat, there was no another option that to use San Antonio like main port. In 1911 a railway line is created that allowed to communicate to the port with Santiago. Six years later the remodeling of the port is begun, which is inaugurated in 1917. With the remodeling, San Antonio maritima of the country managed to obtain a great importance in the economy. At the moment, the port of San Antonio is the main port of the South American western coast with a transference of load in 2004 that reached 10.7 million tons of transferred load.
